Dalam Musnad Imam al-Rubai’ diriwayatkan hadith berikut; لَعَنَ اللَّهُ الْمُسَلَّطَ عَلَى أُمَّتِي بِالْجَبَرُوتِ، وَالْمُسْتَأْثِرَ بِفَيْئِهَا “Allah melaknat orang yang memerintah umatku dengan zalim dan mengaut harta fai’ nya (harta milik awam) untuk kepentingan dirinya.” Imam al-Ghazali dalam kitabnya Ihya Ulumuddin pernah memberikan nasihat tentang cara berinteraksi dengan pemimpin yang zalim iaitu (mafhumnya), “Jangan bergaul dengan para pemimpin dan pembesar yang zalim, bahkan jangan menemuinya. Berjumpa dan bergaul dengan mereka hanya membawa petaka. Tetapi sekiranya kamu bertemu dengan mereka, jangan memuji-muji mereka (tetapi nasihatilah kepada kebaikan), kerana Allah sangat murka ketika orang fasik dan zalim dipuji. Dan barangsiapa mendoakan mereka panjang umur, maka sesungguhnya dia suka agar Allah diderhakai di muka bumi.”
